Located in the tranquil foothills of Agoura Hills, California, Monte Nido Vista provides specialized care for adult women struggling with eating disorders. The facility, set against a backdrop of a beautiful state park and hiking trails, is a private, gated estate featuring an organic garden and a pool in its courtyard. Clients here have the option to transition to various day treatment programs throughout the country, including a location in the nearby Brentwood area.
The treatment approach focuses on restoring physiological and nutritional balance, and includes establishing healthy eating and exercise routines. A critical part of the program is the elimination of harmful behaviors, coupled with the development of motivation and engagement in treatment. The aim is to guide each client towards a comprehensive understanding of their eating disorder and its impact on their life, as well as to cultivate a personalized approach to recovery.
The program addresses a range of issues, from stopping restrictive behaviors and tackling other disordered eating behaviors to dealing with co-occurring disorders. It employs therapies such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivation Enhancement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and interpersonal therapy to address trauma reactions and substance use. The center also focuses on healing the client's relationship with food and provides insights into disordered thinking, attitudes, and behaviors. It works on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of eating disorders, removing harmful patterns affecting self-care and relationships. Part of the therapy involves helping clients understand the link between food- and body-related behaviors and emotions, and developing healthy emotional expression and management skills. Clients are also supported in accepting their natural size and shape, improving self-image, and identifying and modifying patterns that may hinder recovery, with family and other loved ones often playing a role in this process.
